TOP POSTS🤓:~ Here’s why a lane in Visakhapatnam is flocked by parrots every evening

A beautiful sight greets the eyes every evening at 4 pm in one of the lanes of the busy and bustling Dwarakanagar region in Visakhapatnam. Since the past seven to eight years, a group of over fifty parrots flies in to perch on the coconut trees in the street. After half an hour of chit chatting, these birds come on to the terrace of B Radhakrishna, where a feast awaits them. Foxtail millets, sorghum, and other grains are laid out on the terrace to feed them.

“It’s quite a sight to see the habits of these birds every evening”, shares Radhakrishna, adding how at times squirrels join in the feast too. “When the squirrels come, the birds just perch on the wall waiting for them to finish”, he adds with a smile. Pigeons, sparrows, and other birds join in too, but the most regular everyday visitors are the parrots and pigeons.

Whatever be the season, these birds come and go every evening. Their schedule is fixed and followed regularly. Bowls of water for the birds is laid out to, in order to quench their thirst, especially in summer. And as the rising quantity of dust and pollution in Visakhapatnam continues to be a cause of concern, it is sights such as these that bring joy to the heart.

As 5 June marks the World Environment Day, it is our fond hope that the tribe of our winged friends improve. And we can only wish that the numbers of humans who show care and concern increase.

TOP POSTS🤓:~ YS Jagan Mohan Reddy set to swear in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh

YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to swear-in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at 12:23 PM on Thursday. Set to take place at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, the swearing-in ceremony is likely to witness about 30,000 spectators including several prominent authorities and political figures.

Several YSRCP members and party supporters have already flocked Vijayawada to see their favourite leader take oath as the new leader of the state.

While Governor ESL Narasimhan will administer the swearing-in ceremony, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, DMK President MK Stalin are among the dignitaries who will be gracing the event on Thursday.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also invited TDP Chief and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu, Janasena Party President Pawan Kalyan, BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana, Congress leaders N. Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao, Left Party leader Sitaram Yechuri and actor K Chiranjeevi for the swearing-in ceremony.

However, it was earlier reported that Naidu had decided not to attend the function. Instead, the TDP will send its MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Payyavula Keshav, K Achannaidu  Jagan’s residence to congratulate the Chief Minister-designate before the ceremony.

Rains and winds fail to deter the spirit

The preparations for the swearing-in ceremony took a hit as heavy rains lashed Vijayawada city on Wednesday night. The rains and strong winds dampened the ground with puddles and threw the leader’s cutouts into total disarray, threatening to play a spoilsport for the much-anticipated event.

However, with the concerned officials being on a war footing, the arrangements have been restored and the stadium has been brought back to normalcy ahead of the event on Thursday afternoon.

TOP POSTS🤓:~ Sea Harrier Museum to soon adorn the Beach Road in Vizag

Adding to the prized possessions of Kursura Submarine and TU-142 Aircraft Museum at the Beach Road, the authorities will soon set up a Sea Harrier Museum along the seashore in Vizag. Decommissioned by the Indian Navy in 2016, the fighter jet was brought from Goa to the city by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) officials on Tuesday in this regard.

The authorities plan to develop the Sea Harrier into a tourist attraction by converting it into a museum. Likely to be suspended from the ceiling in the Rajiv Smruhti Bhavan, adjacent to the TU-142 Aircraft Museum at the Beach Road in Vizag, the museum is expected to be made a part of the proposed integrated museum and tourist complex in Vizag.

The proposed integrated museum, along with the underground parking project, which will be undertaken by the VMRDA and the AP Tourism, is estimated to be completed at a cost of Rs 80 crore. Earlier, the state government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the development of the Sea Harrier Museum.

“Sea Harrier will be an added attraction to the coastline in Vizag. Efforts are being made to complete the project within six months. If things go as per the plan, we might even be able to complete it well before time,” VMRDA Commissioner Basant Kumar was quoted as saying by Eenadu.

Earlier, District Collector K Bhaskar, following a report from a 3-member probing committee, issued orders to seize Sraddha Hospital.

The police had earlier arrested Dr. Manjunath, an Ayurvedic Doctor from Bengaluru who acted as a middleman in this case along with Dr. D. Prabhakar, Nephrologist at Sraddha Hospital and J. Kumar Varma, Manager of the hospital.

In case you didn’t know

A patient, by the name Prabhakar, was admitted to Sraddha Hospital in Visakhapatnam in last year for a kidney transplant.  A middleman Manjunath, from Bengaluru, came in contact with Pardhasaradhi from Hyderabad, who was in desperate need of money and looked to sell away his kidney. As things turned out, an agreement was reached between Manjunath and Pardhasaradhi and the latter was assured a sum of Rs 12 lakh in return for his kidney.

However, after the completion of the surgery, the donor did not receive the whole sum he was assured of. Complaining that he just received Rs 5 lakh until now, Pardhasaradhi filed a complaint with Visakhapatnam police, thereby leading the way to a major bust.

TOP POSTS🤓:~ Visakhapatnam-based school rides the wave of global standards of education

The Oakridge International School rides the wave of global standards of education in Visakhapatnam and the rest of Andhra Pradesh.

The beginning

Oakridge had a clear plan of action before starting operations in 2001: addressing the unmet educational needs of those returning from other countries and those desiring international curricula. Vikas Group, the parent company from Visakhapatnam, chose Hyderabad to begin this venture and brought on board Shomie Das, the renowned Indian educationalist and proponent of the IB system of education. Holistic education, air-conditioned smart classrooms, focus on sports, and the right faculty ushered in the much-needed international standards. The school soon expanded, and today has its presence in the four cities of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Mohali as well.
Infrastructure.

The most striking visible aspect of the school is its infrastructure. Large green campus away from the humdrum of the city, state of the art laboratories, a well-stocked library, air-conditioned buses, and a spacious boarding facility are few of its offerings. Swimming pool, amphitheater, cricket practice nets, football ground, basketball and Lawn Tennis court add to the mix.

The education

Offering Cambridge Primary for grade 1 to 5, both CBSE and Cambridge International (IGCSE) are offered in Secondary till the grade 10. Students can then opt for CBSE till grade 12. The recent authorization of its Visakhapatnam campus for International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, makes it the first school in the city (and the state) and thus getting the status as the IB World School. Students can from the academic year 2020-21 opt for the coveted IBDP program
Balancing academics along with sports and learning outcome driven activities is the cornerstone of their style of education that aims to provide all-round development. Teachers for extracurricular activities and 12 sports coaches seamlessly dovetails extra and co-curricular activities curriculum with the academics.

It is also the only SAT and AP Exam Centre in Visakhapatnam. An in-school Career Counsellor, provides end-to-end guidance and counselling on the application processes to help prepare students vying for Indian and International Universities. Biju Baby, Principal of the school, shares that, “Oakridge is committed to developing the profile of individual students and providing ample opportunities to enhance their life skills and exposure to real-life situations”. In fact, every year Oakridgers carry out beach cleanups, hold national level conferences such as Ocean Conservation Conference, and even participate in Trinity College London Music Grading Exam where in this inaugural year 48% of the students’ secured distinction.

Excursions, industrial tours, campaigns for a cause, and interactions with industry, academics, and sports superstars complement the classroom learnings. For those relocating to India from other countries, this school offers an international environment, making the transition smoother.

Future plans

A paradigm shift in education has taken place, and this is one of the few schools riding the wave of change. It has earned various accolades over time, with Fortune calling it one of the “Future 50 schools shaping success” in 2017 and Education World awarding ‘No. 1 International Day cum Boarding School in AP’ three years in a row since 2015. A well-researched relevant curriculum that inculcates children with skill-sets, the Oakridge International School has the future as its focus. With the school acquired by Nord Anglia Education in February 2019, Oakridge is now part of a group that owns 61 schools in 28 countries and is growing. However, the value-delivery it started with, remains the same – to create confident and responsible leaders with a global outlook.

TOP POSTS🤓:~ YS Jagan plans a phased ban on liquor in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is aiming at a complete liquor ban policy to be implemented over the next five years in the state. The liquor policy is to be tweaked, over annual phases, so that complete prohibition can be progressively reached in the coming tenure.

Additionally, a parallel policy will be implemented enabling the State Government to maintain all liquor shops; as being done in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Kerala. Otherwise, liquor sale will only be permitted at five-star hotels.

Jana Chaitanya Vedika, an NGO, has been allocated the task of submitting a road map to implement the liquor ban, as planned by YS Jagan. According to its State President, V. Lakshman Reddy, 260 lakh litres of liquor is consumed daily, as compared to daily milk production of 254 lakh litres. He also believes that the State Government should have complete control over the demand and supply of liquor. Therefore, such a strict implementation will eradicate the existence of belt shops and “under the counter” sale of liquor.

In a final show of confidence, the YSRCP Chief has declared that he will not try to garner any more votes if a complete prohibition is not established by 2024. Also, further to the ban will be the implementation of higher liquor rates (in admissible areas), de-addiction centers and awareness drives.

The city police, on Sunday, filed a case against Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, following a complaint by YSRCP leaders. The TDP leader landed in trouble for violating the Model Code of Conduct and making objectionable remarks against the newly elected Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, who won the Assembly seat from Visakhapatnam East for the second consecutive time in the recently conducted polls, organised a victory rally on 23 May, which came as a violation of the model code of conduct. TOP POSTS🤓:~ GVMC’s ‘9 mantras’ to stay safe in the blazing heat in Visakhapatnam

The summer has been a challenging one in Visakhapatnam. With the sun blazing away day after day, the mercury has been on the constant, leaving the citizens with no respite whatsoever. With the district already witnessing a few deaths due to the heat wave, the officials have upped the ante in creating awareness among the public. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has issued ‘9 mantras’ to protect oneself from the blazing heat. Putting up boards across the city, GVMC has been trying to create awareness as to how to stay safe this scorching sun.

The 9 mantras of GVMC to stay safe in the heat:

#1 Stay hydrated

The basic precaution to be taken during the summers is to keep your body hydrated. Heavy perspiration can run the body dry of fluids which makes it imperative to consume water regularly.

#2 Take rest

Taking rest in this blazing weather can help you slow down and find a new pace to work. It will also rejuvenate your energy to cope with the heat.

#3 Use an umbrella. Stay in the shade

Using an umbrella can help pedestrians protect themselves from the sun. Also staying in the shade during the day is important to stay safe in the excessive heat.

#4 Avoid going outdoors when the temperatures are high

Avoid going out in the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM, especially during noon when the heat is at its peaking best. This way, you can reduce the chance of falling prey to a heat stroke.

#5 Take in cold water baths

Apart from lowering your body temperature, a refreshing cool shower at the end of a tiring day can leave your soul totally rejuvenated.

#6 Consume fruits and fluids

Seasonal fruits and fluids can help a great deal in beating the heat in summer. Apart from quenching thirst, they can also aid your body’s nourishment.

#7 Avoid consuming alcohol

Drinking alcohol and hot weather do not go hand in hand. Alcohol can cause dehydration and even leave one exhausted to worsen the trouble this scorching season.

#8 Switch on fans

Keep your surroundings cool by switching on fans and opening the windows. Get the air flowing around you to get rid of the sweat.

#9 Wear light clothes

Wear lightweight clothing that is comfortable, and try to wear light coloured dresses as they won’t absorb heat from the atmosphere. This also helps you in maintaining hygiene in the heat, especially in a humid place like Visakhapatnam.
